EIC Call for Innovation SSEPD Tree Cutting

Tree cutting and vegetation management is a key activity for electricity network operators to ensure the safety and resilience of the network. However the nature of the work can be hazardous for tree cutting staff with incidents ranging from insect bites and stings, to injuries from falling branches.

As well as the physical impact on staff, from 2010 – 2015, SSEPD spent approximately £100 million in managing trees and vegetation across its regions.

SSEPD is now looking to identify alternative solutions to current methods of vegetation management that include tree cutting, tree felling and tree clearance.

This is the latest in a series of calls for innovation managed by the EIC, which offers innovators the opportunity to register interest and offer potential solutions to targeted energy distribution sector problems.

If you have an idea or a solution that can help, register your interest by calling us on 0151 348 8040 and quoting the reference number DNO-15-05 or by completing the form below.

The deadline for registering initial interest in this call is 5pm, Friday 27th November 2015.
