Monitoring overhead line conductors can be a tall order, can you help?

One of our distribution network operator (DNO) partners is looking for a new method of inspection for the 4,000km of transmission lines in its license area.
The lines need to be tested for corrosion as it can be one of the primary causes of failure however this can be a time consuming task. For the inspection to take place, an operator has to climb the pylon which can take several hours to traverse and requires an extended power outage.
The DNO is looking for an alternative inspection method that would allow the lines to be examined from the ground or air while the line is still live. This would eliminate the need for outages and climbing of transmission towers which would not only reduce the survey time but also make the whole operation safer and less disruptive for customers.
If you have the skill set or experience to contribute to this opportunity, register your interest by calling us on 0151 348 8040 and quoting the reference number DNO-15-07, or by completing the form below. The deadline for registering initial interest in this call is 5pm, Friday 1st April.
This is the latest in a series of calls for innovation, managed by the EIC, which offers innovators the opportunity to register interest and propose potential solutions to targeted energy distribution sector problems.
