The latest in a series of Calls for Innovation seeks potential solutions to a problem area identified by a Gas Distribution Network (GDN) focussing on the Smart Tools Optimisation Recognition of Equipment.
There are approximately 7,000 vehicles being deployed throughout the UK gas distribution networks, providing critical work to ensure a reliable gas supply to customers.
Networks are currently replacing vehicles in their fleets with lighter and more economical models in an effort to lower their carbon footprint. However, these vehicles have lower payload weight constraints which will result in the field force not being able to carry the same level of tools and equipment as previously.
The networks are seeking an innovative solution that will allow field force engineers to efficiently track tools and equipment when they are located in either central depots or nearby fleet vehicles, thereby eliminating the necessity to have a full suite of equipment in each vehicle.
