Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) gas is widely used in circuit breakers, transformers and other types of high voltage switchgear. It has a number of qualities that make it useful as a dielectric medium for electric utility applications. Unfortunately, its use also presents safety and environmental challenges when maintenance is needed as the gas itself is a potent greenhouse gas.
Network operators have the responsibility of handling, measuring and reporting on SF6 and also identifying leaks in items of plant.
There is a need to be able to carry out safe and controlled handling of SF6 on site and we are aware that there are many different technical solutions available in the market place.
This project seeks to pull the several different handling functionalities into one portable solution that would be used by a trained operator on site.
