Surface Preparation for Polyethylene Pipe

One of our gas distribution network (GDN) partners is looking to identify new solutions for preparing the surface of polyethylene (PE) pipes – can you help?

The GDN is in the process of replacing ageing gas pipes with new more durable PE pipes which are delivered in sticks or coils. PE needs to be fused together to allow for bends, service connections and other pipe geometries fitting to the site requirements.

Before the pipes are fused together, they must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all surface contaminations including mud, dust and grease and also natural oxidisation of the material from its contact with the air. The preparation method must not further degrade or damage the PE pipe or fittings and must not remove material past an acceptable depth.

If you think you have the skill sets or experience to contribute to this opportunity, register your interest by calling us on 0151 348 8040 and quoting the reference number GDN-16-03 or by completing the form below.

The deadline for registering initial interest in this call is Wednesday 10th August 2016.

This is the latest in a series of calls for innovation, managed by the EIC, which offers innovators the opportunity to register interest and propose potential solutions to targeted energy distribution sector problems.
