The latest Call for Innovation seeks potential solutions to a problem area identified by the electricity distribution network operators (DNOs). This particular problem area has a focus on the use of existing portable earthing to provide protection from induced voltages, impressed voltages or inadvertent back-feeds that could arise during the course of work.
Portable earths are made up of an arrangement of leads and clamps that can be heavy and difficult to handle and apply, particularly on overhead line networks and on outdoor substation plants during windy conditions.
This innovation call seeks to identify innovative and cost effective alternatives to the existing earthing and bonding arrangements, or how these existing systems are used and applied.
The network operators are open to ideas and approaches to solve this challenge. Potential solutions can range from one single idea to several innovations that complement each other.
