£15m available for energy infrastructure projects

Businesses are being invited to bid for a share of a £15m pot of money from Innovate UK to create and develop new infrastructure projects, including the chance to help provide affordable, sustainable and secure energy.

The idea behind the project is to encourage proposals that provide ways to integrate and optimise different infrastructure systems that will create better performance, adaptability and resilience. Innovation is needed for;

• resilience to change
• fitness for purpose in the future
• optimal value from investment

Innovate UK is searching for projects that focus on industrial research, technical feasibility or experimental development, depending on what the challenge is.

The £15m funding will be allocated to innovation projects with costs ranging from £25,000 to £5 million. There is £5m for projects with eligible costs of up to £100,000 and last from three months to one year and £10m for projects with eligible costs of up to £5 million and last over one year and up to three years.

The breakdown of areas that Innovate UK is welcoming applications from are:

• Energy systems
• Nuclear fission
• Offshore wind
• Connected transport
• Urban living
• Smart, resilient, sustainable integrated infrastructure

Applications need to include at least one UK-based SME and projects must be mostly carried out in the UK and lastbetween three months and three years.

The deadline to register is 12pm on Wednesday September 14 2016
